Paris, Hotel Plaza Athenee: Our favorite Hotels in Paris.

This is one of Paris’s most ostentatious and unabashedly opulent hotels, and offers one of the city’s most iconic views from its carnation-adorned balconies. Expect glamorous surroundings and excellent food served in theatrical style (and yes, it’s the one from Sex and the City)

Perfectly situated for lovers of luxury on the prestigious Avenue Montaigne, which houses major designer stores (YSL, Louis Vuittton, Chanel), as well as the flagship Dior. The high-end theatres and cabarets of the ‘Golden Triangle’ district, such as the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and Crazy Horse, are within close walking distance. Unlikely the guests take the metro, but the nearest are Alma-Marceau (line 9) and Franklin D. Roosevelt (lines 1 and 9).

In the dazzling restaurant, Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée, wood panelling, columns and immense chandeliers contrast with modern silver banquette, which reflects the grand environs in its polished surface. The bar features old-fashioned wood panelling, thrown into relief by an undulating electric blue ceiling installation, intended to resemble crumpled fabric, in a nod to the heritage of the district; at night, it casts an atmospheric hue over the space. The bar attracts some flashy types. Expect to find a harpist providing the mood music in the long vaulted halls that link the restaurants and bar.
